Morris Animal Foundation Launches Stop Cancer Furever Campaign May 1

Funds raised support cancer research for animals around the world

DENVER/May 1, 2019 – Morris Animal Foundation, the preeminent leader in advancing animal health, will launch its sixth annual cancer campaign, Stop Cancer Furever, on May 1. The two-month campaign, which ends June 30, raises awareness of and funds for research that will lead to new understandings about how to prevent, diagnose earlier and treat animal cancers. Gifts can be made, and more information can be found, at Stop Cancer Furever.

Cancer is a disease that impacts animals everywhere. Each year, more than 12 million pets in the United States are diagnosed with cancer. It is the leading cause of death in dogs over the age of 2 and the second leading cause of death in cats. Since 1962, Morris Animal Foundation has funded more than 300 cancer studies, investing nearly $40 million, and continues to make strides against the disease, thanks to generous donor support.

“We’ve come a long way and made some very important breakthroughs possible, but there is still so much work to be done,” said Tiffany Grunert, President/CEO of Morris Animal Foundation. “We’re advancing cancer care step by step, by funding only the best, most impactful studies. We can’t do that, though, without public support. Help us stop cancer forever.”

With almost 60 years of cancer research to date, Morris Animal Foundation funding has led to numerous breakthroughs and advancements in cancer care, including:

  • Improved understanding of aggressive mast cell tumors
  • Advancement of a new diagnostic tool for feline injection-site sarcomas
  • Improved dosing of specific cancer drugs in dogs to enhance treatment outcomes for osteosarcoma and carcinomas
  • Testing of a canine melanoma vaccine, now confirmed safe and effective in horses with melanoma, providing an effective treatment for a devastating cancer in horses

The Petco Foundation and the Blue Buffalo Company are partnering with Morris Animal Foundation in the fight against cancer, with a dollar-for-dollar gift match, up to $200,000, until the end of the campaign on June 30.
