Cold Weather Pet Safety Tips
The Denver Dog reports
Keep your best friend safe this season by following these cold weather pet safety tips!
- Leash your pets if you walk near any frozen ponds or lakes. Loose pets can succumb to hypothermia by falling through the ice and becoming submerged in the water.
- If you bathe your dog when the weather is cold, ensure that they are fully dry before going out in the cold weather.
- Wipe ice and snow away from your dog’s feet to help prevent irritation.
- Use non-toxic antifreeze in your garage and avoid spills. Antifreeze has a sweet taste and can cause severe kidney failure and death if ingested.
- Purchase a sweater or jacket to keep your dog warm when on walks. Also consider purchasing booties to keep your dog’s feet warm and dry while outside.
- Keep your pets inside as much as possible! Leaving animals outside for excess amount of time in cold weather can lead to frostbite.
